Columbia University's Business and Economics Library owns a unique collection of historical annual reports. The majority of the reports predate the 1934 Securities Exchange Act which regulated and standardized reporting.
Librarians at Michigan and Washington were negotiating their initial union contracts (ABLD, 2022, pp. 70, 107). Purdue faculty librarians are moving to academic year contracts, so their newly hired business and data librarian will provide reference coverage for the summer months (ABLD, 2022, p.95).

A public company's 10-K (or 20-F for certain foreign companies) is an excellent source of information on its business, strategies, risks, financials, and more. It presents the company's point of view on its current condition and future direction. Other SEC filings reveal important information as well. ** Private companies or subsidiaries are not required to release detailed financials, and therefore don't need to file 10-K (annual report), 10-Q (quarterly report), etc.
Following Werner, Alicia Estes of New York University, reported on a research project undertaken with Deb Wallace, Harvard Business School, and Hannah Rasmussen, Harvard Business School CLIR Fellow, which explored the role of research taking place at ABLD member libraries. The goal of their research project was to explore the research being done in business library space.

The six libraries were formerly partners in the SCoRe ('Search Company Reports') national catalogue of printed company reports. The catalogue is no longer updated, but may still of assistance to researchers.
It is easier to find information about public companies (those that sell stock to shareholders) than about private companies (those that are privately owned by an individual or a group).
